Project Description
PCL-Maxam, a Joint Venture provided design build, CM-GMP services to Rainbow Transport in the construction of their complete trucking facility in Edmonton. The project consisted of sitework, an office, a trucking terminal dock and a maintenance facility. The site is 10.75 acres which is finished mainly with a recycled concrete structure of 12" thick. Drainage is achieved with 8 catch basins. No slopes can exceed 2% to accommodate truck parking. The terminal building is supplied with (60' wide) concrete aprons while the maintenance shop is supplied with (8' wide) concrete aprons. The rear yard is designed for parking semi-trailers and is complete with 1100 lineal feet of 4' wide, 12" thick concrete dolly pads. The office is service with an asphalt parking lot and landscaping to City of Edmonton Standards. The office is two storey with a pre-engineered roof system and conventional wall construction. The main floor is 5470 SF, the 2nd floor is 3517 SF. The exterior is finished with Imasco stucco, a curved, split faced block feature wall and a 16' x 24' curtain wall entrance with Visteon blue reflective glass. The interior is finished with a full height curved reception area, ceramic, carpet and VCT flooring and pre-finished birch doors and millwork. The building will be serviced with 5 roof-top heat/cool units on 3 zones. The dock terminal building is a 12,480 SF pre-engineered building. It is constructed on foundations elevated 52" to accommodate trailer deck heights. The foundations have been extended 25' past the endwall of the building and are designed to for building expansion in the future. Each wall has 15 overhead dock doors with air bag type dock levelers and dock seals. The office and dock terminal building are separated by a 4-hour block firewall. The dock terminal building is serviced with a make up air unit and boiler fed in slab heating. The Maintenance shop is a 14,566 SF pre-engineered building with an integrated 2 floor office area of 2256 SF per floor. Building is equipped with twelve 14' x 16' overhead service doors, an 88' long lube service pit, a 9,000 CFM make up air unit, in slab boiler fed heating and truck exhaust evacuation equipment. Finishes are simple, durable and inexpensive.
