Duggan Bridge Rehabilitation

The existing precast panel bridge deck was removed along with the top 200 mm of the existing beams. Upon completion of this demolition, forms were set to extend the existing beams vertically as well as to form the soffit. The beams were cast with the new deck with 35 Mpa silica fume concrete. Silica fume concrete is very temperature-sensitive, consequently one deck pour took place during the night and the other on a cool, moist day in the fall. The deck was placed and finished without a deck finisher - we used a subcontractor to place and finish the deck by hand. The final product is very attractive -- both the owner and the engineer are very pleased with quality of workmanship. Single-lane traffic was maintained during the course of construction
