Henry Singer - Manulife Place

The new home for Henry Singer Men's Wear was space that required demolition prior to construction for both the retail clothing store of 14,900 sq. ft. and a distribution centre of 3,200 sq. ft. This project provided PCL-Maxam, a Joint Venture with high visibility downtown. Some of the challenges faced by the project team were the extensive amount of demolition (we assumed a site occupied by multiple tenants, part of which was a truck-turning bay). Also, the final layout makes use of high ceilings throughout the space and many site services had to be relocated. In order to be open for the Christmas retail season, we pre-ordered light fixtures in advance of subcontracting the electrical scope. The demolition for the first three weeks was completed on a time and material basis. The site was kept appraised of scope changes daily as we fast-tracked construction.
