Project Description
Keyano College is a technical/trade educational institution serving northern Alberta. The College Board of Directors issued tender documents in early 2002 to add an additional 3,000 m2 of classroom floor space to their existing facility.  On March 19th, 2002, PCL-Maxam, a Joint Venture and the College executed a stipulated price contract to undertake the construction of this addition. The main framing/structure of this two-story (plus penthouse) facility consists of structural steel framing with open web steel joists supported by grade beams on compacto piles. The exterior envelope is a mix of brick veneer, metal cladding, aluminum metal panels and glazed aluminum framed curtain wall. The roof membrane consists of a SBS roofing system over top of metal decking. The exterior walls are constructed of steel studs, and finished with painted gypsum board. The interior partitions are mainly constructed of painted gypsum board. Most of the slab on grade will be covered with various types of flooring including carpet, porcelain tile and VCT. The washroom facilities will be finished primarily in ceramic tile. A single elevator located near the main entry will service the two-story classroom area and the mechanical penthouse. An adjacent existing single story millwright shop requires the addition of OWSJ to accommodate heavier snow loads anticipated from the taller new space.
