Project Description

The intersection at Glenmore Trail and 18th Street SE is a major entrance and exit link for the communities of Riverbend and Ogden.  The intersection also accommodates commercial and industrial traffic along Glenmore Trail which is part of a “Skeletal Road Network” of major transportation routes around the City.  Due to the high rate of population and employment growth and significant increases in public and commercial travel over the past five years, upgrading of the intersection increased the efficient functioning of the network system.

As a Contractor Partner joined with the owner and engineering consultant for a “Co-operative Project Delivery”, PCL-Maxam provided design assistance and value engineering along with fast track construction.  The unit price contract awarded to PCL-Maxam included the earthwork, roads, ramps, bridge, storm drainage, street lighting, landscaping and sound walls.

The schedule for the project was aggressive due to the fast track design and construction requirements of the owner.  Construction of the detour started May 01, 2002 and was completed in time to allow construction of the new interchange to begin June 01, 2002.  The bridge was opened to traffic on October 30, 2002 only 6 months after construction began.  Final landscaping was completed in the summer of 2003.  The aggressive schedule was maintained during the project with minimal disruptions to the traffic and residents while meeting or exceeding all milestones.
