Project Description
The Banff Springs Hotel is an 80-year-old "stone castle" in the Canadian Rockies. This major redevelopment project consisted of renovating and expanding the podium levels to relocate the main lobby, provide new food store areas, expand kitchens, add two new restaurants, and revitalize the exclusive retail area. The main entrance lobby is now relocated at the front of the hotel, and the former entrance is strictly a VIP Guest and Bus Entrance. High quality millwork and unique ornamental ceiling and wall designs were incorporated into the luxurious finishing within all new areas of the hotel's interior. New entrance lobby features high rock ceiling, grand staircase, and tyndal stone flooring. Exterior is covered with genuine Alberta rundlestone which will eventually weather to match the existing stonework. The 33-month schedule allowed for shutting of hotel departments to allow new space developments to ensure that guest services and comforts were always maintained. With eight milestone completion dates, scheduling work activities played a major role in the project's success. Construction started with only conceptual design to the project. Tender packages for each operational component of work were issued as design was completed.
